Lifeskills, Workplace Skills & College Prep
Communication Workshop: Abigail Dougherty
Abigail Dougherty often introduces herself as an accidental communicator. A career in Finance and Engineering in construction and global high tech taught her that the majority of business problems have roots in poor communication.
As her third career Ms. Dougherty owns Straight Edge Solutions, a business management-consulting firm focused on helping small businesses be successful. Communication training and techniques are two crucial components in her customized service.
In 2007 Ms. Dougherty retired from a career at Intel. Her last seven years she was communications program manager for worldwide customer satisfaction. That role included global negotiations on program processes, information management and coordinating corporate responses to customer issues.
Outside of work, Ms. Dougherty is on the Board of the International Association of Business Communicators Oregon Columbia chapter (OCIABC) and was co-chair for the 2007 and 2008 Communicator’s Conference hosted by OCIABC and the Portland chapter of the Public Relations Society of Amercia. She is a group facilitator for the Small Business Development Council’s Opportunity Knocks program. Ms. Dougherty is a member of the National Speakers Association and the North West Coaches Association. She and her husband live in Portland as staff to their three Ragdoll cats.
Ms. Dougherty holds bachelors degrees in Accounting and Housing. She also holds Masters degrees in Finance and Mechanical Engineering.
